The Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS) provides support to the Ministries of Environment of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to increase regional harmonization, sector development in nature conservation and related socio-economic development, as well as promote the development of state of the art operational instruments for sector policies and develop strategies and instruments for sustainable financing of Protected areas.
TJS not only collaborates closely with the three Ministries of Environment of the South Caucasus, but also streamlines its activities with other organizations and donors on whom the ministries of environment may also call for services and support. TJS activities aim to support the establishment of transboundary mechanisms for nature conservation between the South Caucasus countries as well as transboundary information exchange and lessons learned.
TJS is part of German Development Cooperation in the South Caucasus and is implemented by AHT-Group AG in Essen, Germany, in association with REC Caucasus in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is implemented as one of three components of the Ecoregional Nature Protection Programme for the Southern Caucasus which is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW.
